Silkworth Group was originally founded in the 90’s under the Not-For-Profit Entity, ‘The Families In Recovery Trust’. the organisation is governed by a board of Trustees who ensure the smooth operation and good governance in line with requirements set out by the Jersey Care Commission. Also part of the group is another Not-For-Profit Entity, ‘Jersey Council on Alcoholism’ which is the entity that looks after Secondary care services.
As a registered organisation that requires legislation and governance under the Jersey Charity Commission and the Jersey Care Commission, we have a duty to ensure world class treatment that works with best practice methods. Our extremely qualified and dedicated team are so connected to the work that we do, that each one of our team contributes in a way that is more than just a job. Our staff come to work to make a difference which is what we always strive to deliver in line with our Mission, Vision and Values.
Our Founding Chairman, Mr Frank Laine and the dedicated Board of Trustees, strive to deliver great outcomes that ultimately contribute towards the benefits that alcoholics and addicts in recovery, together with their families and significant others, bring to society.
Drug/Alcohol addiction is particularly prevalent in Jersey. Alcohol consumption is twice that of the UK and one of the highest in Europe. Excessive use of alcohol and drugs places families and relationships under great stress. Nobody sets out to become an alcoholic or drug addict and it is not a problem of morals or will power. It is a very powerful and confusing illness which destroys a person from the inside and also those surrounding them who are often caught up in the chaos that comes with the illness that is addiction.
Silkworth Lodge
Silkworth Lodge was opened in 2002 by The Families in Recovery Trust which is a Jersey registered Charity and part of The Silkworth Charity Group. An integral part of Jersey’s support system, offering residential rehabilitation for men and women who are affected by drug and alcohol addiction touching the lives of thousands of islanders on an annual basis through various facilities and programmes.
We provide a tailor-made programme of treatment which helps the client to rebuild relationships, regain their self esteem and most of all, enables them to integrate back into society on a new footing.
Our philosophy is to improve awareness of addiction and contribute towards ending the stigma that surrounds it. The perceptions of addiction need to change and our aim is to build compassion and understanding around it. Anyone can be affected by addiction, and everyone deserves the help they need to overcome it.
We work as a community partnership that believes by working together we can bring about the change so badly needed that will help more people and families find recovery.
West Park
We believe that Secondary Care Treatment at our West Park Avenue properties play a significant part in contributing to an individual’s long term recovery. This facility enables clients to transition from residential treatment into an environment where the client has more independence by being able to seek employment, work on rebuilding family or significant others relationships.
Whilst resident in Secondary Care, there is still vitally important structure where clients have to ensure they are being productive with their days as they transition into normal living free from drink or drugs. Clients will normally be resident in these facilities three to six months with full support of staff, peers and the team at Silkworth Lodge Primary Treatment Centre. It’s simply a ‘bridge to normal living’.
The only residential treatment centre in the Channel Islands, we offer a range of services to support you and your family back to a healthy quality of life.
