Dry January: Did You Manage It? And If Not — We’re Here for You

As January draws to a close, many people are reflecting on their experience of Dry January. For some, it’s been a welcome break — better sleep, clearer thinking, and a sense of achievement. For others, it’s been far more difficult than expected. And for some, it may not have been possible at all.

If you managed it, you may have learned something important about your relationship with alcohol. You might have noticed changes in your mood, energy, or health, or become more aware of how alcohol fits into daily life in Jersey — whether socially, at home, or as a way of coping with stress. These reflections can be a helpful starting point for positive change.

If you didn’t manage it, you’re not alone. Many people find that stopping — even for a month — brings up uncomfortable feelings, cravings, or anxiety. That doesn’t mean you lack willpower. It may simply mean that alcohol has become something you rely on more than you realised.

Dry January is not a test. It doesn’t define you. What it can do is highlight where extra support might be helpful.

Here in Jersey, help is available — and it doesn’t require a crisis to ask for it. Whether Dry January made you curious, concerned, or unsure about your drinking, talking things through can make a real difference.

At The Silkworth Group, we provide confidential, non-judgemental support for individuals and families across the Island who are affected by chemical dependency and mental health challenges. We understand the unique pressures of living in a small community, and we know how important it is to feel safe, heard, and supported.

If you managed Dry January and want to continue exploring healthier choices, we can support you.
If you didn’t manage it and feel disappointed, worried, or stuck, we can support you too.

Whatever your experience this January, you don’t have to face it alone. We are here for you.
