22/08/2024 The Value of Partnerships

Silkworth Group, a key provider in drug and alcohol services in the Channel Islands, has been delivering modern residential and outreach addiction treatment services for over 25 years. Working in partnership with Health and Community Services, Silkworth Group has touched the lives of thousands of people, including young people and families to get a fresh start on life free from alcohol and other drugs. The group also supports educational initiatives within schools and corporate organisations, focusing on drugs, alcohol, and other mood-altering chemicals.

People and communities are at the heart of everything the Silkworth Group does. The group collaborates closely with Health and Community Services’ Alcohol and Drug Service to offer personalised care, tailored to a person’s unique needs. This is a shared vision of both statutory and community based services and has positioned the Channel Islands as a leader in addiction treatment, recognised by the Government of Jersey.

The partnership between Silkworth Group and Health and Community Services ensures a seamless care and support journey for individuals, unlike other jurisdictions where accessing such services can be challenging. This collaboration offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Improved health outcomes
  • Value for money
  • Better decision-making
  • Improved quality of services
  • Accountability and transparency
  • Joint working and efficiencies
  • Meeting legal duties
  • Addressing health inequalities

“My role is to ensure that the health needs of Islanders are met in an effective, efficient and sustainable way. The collaboration between Silkworth Group and Health and Community Services, demonstrates what can be achieved through genuine partnership working. The two organisations work closely together to ensure that individuals have a positive experience of care and effective treatment. This is evidenced through the health outcomes attained and individuals’ feedback given. The blended approach combines public funding with charitable funding, and draws on an individual’s strength, empowering them to support their own recovery. This creates a more cost effective, sustainable model of health care for the island.”

Drugs and alcohol can have a detrimental effect on society. Silkworth Group, and Health and Community Services continue to be a great example of how voluntary and public sector services can come together to make drug and alcohol treatment services accessible for all.

“It cannot be underestimated the value of the healthy partnership that we have with the Government of Jersey. It is this partnership that makes it possible for seamless access to residential treatment . The partnership is not just financial but also brings togethers professionals in our field in order that we can share aspirations and goals to ensure service gaps are filled to the best of all of our abilities whilst also sharing ideas and tools that encourages transparency and opportunities for potential service developments.”
